Children, especially orphans, are the greatest victims of war, famine and disease. Ten million children under the age of six will die this year from preventable diseases. Tragically, global issues such as AIDS and other crises are causing the numbers of orphans to rapidly increase. The future of the world depends upon the children, yet the children's future depends upon us. We read these statistics and watch on TV the images of children in Africa and other parts of the world; little bodies starved, wasted and diseased.We wonder what can one person do to help. What can a busy working woman, mother and grandmother, living in Sydney Australia do to make a difference? I decided to use my hobby, making jewellery, and my home based business, distributing high quality skin care, to support the two projects below. |

My contribution to Nakuru Baby Orphanage, Kenya, is to provide dietary supplements to the children, mostly babies. Most of these babies have been orphaned by HIV AIDS and many are HIV positive. Endowment Australasia is the Australasian arm of MannaRelief Through the Blessing Program. MannaRelief assists to provide nutritional supplements to orphans on every continent. My Watoto project is to help to build a school in Gulu, for the ex-child soldiers of northern Uganda. The school will be set up within a Watoto Childrens' village. You can read about the Watoto model and about the many projects this mission group are using to help the women and children of Uganda. If you wish you can donate directly to Watoto on their website.
Invisible Children: It is estimated there are 30,000 children that have been abducted by the LRA to be trained as child soldiers. For news on developments in Gulu, Uganda visit the Invisible Children. and Watch the Invisible Children video The Colour Sisterhood is a group of women who have partnered with Watoto to finance the many projects for the women and children of Uganda. Groups of women are fundraising to build homes, build schools and baby clinics, a baby orphanage. They place orphaned children in a home of eight children with a widowed mother to care for them.
